XIA-3
A boundary-pushing instrumental fusion project from Newfoundland, seamlessly blending traditional Chinese influences with the dynamic rhythms of Western post-rock. Formed in 2022, the trio features guzheng virtuoso Dr. Jing Xia, alongside renowned St. John’s punk rockers Ben Chapman-Smith on baritone guitar, and Brian Downton on drums.
Known for their bold sonic landscapes and genre-crossing approach, XIA-3 has earned widespread recognition, including Instrumental Artist of the Year and Global Music Artist of the Year
at the 2025 MusicNL Awards, as well as Global Music Release of the Year at the 2026 East Coast Music Awards.
